American Newspaper

A man is out walking in New York city when he sees a little girl being chased by a fierce dog. He fights off the dog by hitting the dog’s head with a stick and saves the girl’s life.
The girl’s mother rushes over to him: “Thank you so much for saving my little girl. You are a true hero. Tomorrow all the newspapers will have headlines about ‘Brave New Yorker Saves the Life of Young Girl’”
“But I’m not a New Yorker,” the man says.
“Oh, then it will say in all the newspapers Brave American Saves Life of Young Girl,” says the mother.
“But I’m not an American neither,” the man says.
“So, what are you then?” asks the mother.
“I’m an Iranian,” the man replied politely.
The next day he sees the newspaper headlines:
“Islamic Extremist Kills American Dog.”

This joke is making fun of the american media because the guy isn’t american and saying he is Iranian makes the american media sound foolish because they are saying oh hes iranian and killed a dog he can’t do any good to help out a little girl this joke is showing how sterotypical my country can be and everyone probably is i think almost everyone not us citizen sees most of us as fat hamburger eating idiots which can be right in a way what the media shows is how we perceive people I think.
I didn’t really find this funny at all. I wasn’t offended by it or anything since i’m muslim myself, the joke just didn’t seem to make me laugh out loud like the rest of you.
This is both funny and sad all at the same time. If it makes us look deeper at ourselves and our prejudices maybe there’s hope of changing them. I mean, the man whatever race or religion (or even if we change the gender for that matter) was a hero, but that’s not how Americans typically view people of different faiths. Maybe it will wake some of us up so that we won’t be so small minded. I laughed at how narrow minded I saw things at first, then it got me to thinking much of a deeper meaning there is to this story.
